Darjeeling is a beautiful hill town in the Indian state of West Bengal. Both these places are famous for their natural and unspoiled serenity. Your 7-day journey will include viewing the unending green valleys and snow-capped peaks. The cultural richness of these places also attracts foreign visitors here. The remote areas here have accepted modernity yet their ancient traditions thrive.
On the first day, you land in Bagdogra. It is a small town in Sikkim that hosts the airport. With a drive towards Gangtok, your Himalayan expedition begins. Gangtok is the capital city of Sikkim with breathtaking views and ambiance. Its elevation is around 1700 meters above sea level. From here you can view the majestic peaks of Kanchenjunga Range. It includes the 3rd highest peak in the world Mount Kanchenjunga Main. Other than the picturesque setting, Gangtok has a lot of monasteries. These decades-old pilgrimage sites preserve ancient Buddhist practices.
Pelling, another hill town offers a view of the gigantic Kanchenjunga massif. Here the Pemayangtse Monastery is a major tourist and pilgrim attraction. It showcases the intricate artistry and architectural brilliance of Buddhist design. While in Pelling, one has to try the traditional food of Sikkim. The most savory dishes are the momos(dumplings), noodles, and soup with local flavors.
From there we head to West Bengal. Darjeeling in West Bengal is one of the best hill stations in India. It has lush green valleys with a wide range of flora and fauna. The prime allure of the Darjeeling are the tea estates. These plantations produce the world-famous Darjeeling Tea. One also should hop on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. A train ride will take you through some tranquil views of the valley. We would also recommend you check out some awe-inspiring handicrafts by the locals.
